Outpatient Medical Coder (Remote)Position Details + Job Title: Outpatient Medical Coder + Contract Length: 6-9 months (possible extension) + Location: Remote (Midwest preferred) + Shift: Standard business hours (8 AM-5 PM CST or 7 AM-4 PM CST) Job Responsibilities + Perform hospital HB coding for ambulatory surgery across multiple service areas (ortho, pain, wound, neuro, cardiac, etc.). + Review inpatient and outpatient medical records for documentation, abstracting, and analysis. + Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to the highest level of specificity. + Apply modifiers, CCI edits, LCD/NCD rules, and payer regulations accurately. + Research and resolve coding issues using Epic Charge Review Work Queue functionality. + Collaborate with Clinical Auditors and maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. + Maintain productivity and quality standards (95% accuracy). Top Skills Required + High School Diploma/GED + Completion of nationally recognized coding program (AHIMA/AAPC) + RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification required + 2+ years of outpatient medical coding experience + Hospital coding experience in surgery and wound service areas + EHR experience (Epic preferred) + Ability to work from a dedicated home office space Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of West Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
