Join a dedicated team of rehabilitation professionals as a Pediatric School-Based Occupational Therapist serving students in the Elmira City School District. This full-time, direct-hire position offers the unique flexibility of choosing between a 10-month schedule (with summers off) or a 12-month schedule, allowing you to balance your professional and personal life. Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students' specific occupational therapy needs according to physician prescriptions and formulate individualized treatment plans with measurable goals
  • Plan and implement therapeutic treatment programs based on best practices in pediatric occupational therapy
  • Complete comprehensive evaluations for wheelchairs, splints, positioning equipment, and activities of daily living (ADL) devices
  • Fabricate custom orthotic, assistive, and splinting devices as needed for pediatric patients
  • Prepare thorough written documentation including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress notes, and required reports in compliance with school district and healthcare policies
  • Communicate regularly with physicians, educators, and healthcare providers regarding student care and progress
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including teachers, speech therapists, physical therapists, and school psychologists to coordinate comprehensive care plans
  • Provide guidance, training, and education to students, families, caregivers, teachers, and support staff
  • Supervise and direct support staff members assigned to assist with student care
  • Maintain department equipment, supplies, and therapy materials in proper working condition
  • Participate in developing and standardizing new occupational therapy services, protocols, and evidence-based interventions
  • Provide in-service educational opportunities for school staff, healthcare professionals, and community members
  • Attend mandatory continuing education programs and maintain professional development relevant to pediatric occupational therapy
  • Deliver age-appropriate therapeutic care to children and adolescents across developmental stages
  • Participate in school district and departmental committees as required
Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Licensure: Current New York State Occupational Therapy license, or eligibility to obtain licensure at time of hire (required)
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date
  • Experience: Previous experience in a hospital, school-based, or pediatric healthcare setting strongly preferred
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills with knowledge of IEP processes and school-based therapy practices
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and perform intermittent lifting, transferring, and positioning of students and equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
