About the job

Advantra is partnering with a seed-stage AI infrastructure startup in San Francisco to hire a Software Engineer, New Grad to build distributed data systems and contribute to a core open-source engine used in real-world AI workloads.

About the role

You will work with senior engineers to design and build production features in the company's distributed query engine and cloud service. You will gain experience in system design, testing, and implementation while contributing to projects that support large-scale AI and ML applications. You will work in person with a small, experienced engineering team.

Responsibilities

1. Contribute to features in a distributed query engine.
2. Develop components for the company's managed cloud platform.
3. Write clean, maintainable, and tested code.
4. Collaborate with senior engineers to design system features.
5. Help debug and document system components.
6. Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
7. Learn best practices for large-scale data infrastructure.
8. Work in a fast-paced, high-collaboration environment.
   
   
   
   

Core requirements

1. Within 1 year of university graduation.
2. Strong programming skills in Python or Rust.
3. Experience with object-oriented and functional programming.
4. Understanding of distributed systems or databases.
5. Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
6. Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
7. Evidence of academic or project-based software experience.
8. Interest in building scalable data infrastructure.
9. Ability to work in person in San Francisco 4 days a week.
10. Desire to learn from and collaborate with experienced engineers.
    
    
    
    

Nice to have

1. Prior internship or project in data systems or infrastructure.
2. Contributions to open-source projects.
3. Familiarity with containerization (Docker or Kubernetes).
4. Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
5. Understanding of GPU-based compute environments.
