What You Will Do

The Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory integrates the stockpile stewardship program and weapons engineering and testing in support of the Laboratory's critical mission. The Plutonium Supply & Disposition (PSD) Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory process plutonium, uranium and other actinide materials to meet national program requirements. This position is a collaborative position between the Materials Recovery & Recycle (PSD-4) and Aqueous Recovery & Purification Operations (PSD-5) groups. PSD-4 and PSD-5 are seeking to hire undergraduate students pursuing an associate degree in nuclear operations or related disciplines. The selected students will primarily be conducting hands-on work in a nuclear facility under supervision of senior technicians or subject matter experts. The students will gain experience handling nuclear materials, performing wet and dry chemistry, manipulating various analytical instruments, and performing hands-on work in radiological gloveboxes.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited associate's degree program with at least 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters or the quarter system equivalent.
  • Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to work and problem-solve independently.
  • Ability to work within a nuclear facility.
Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with radioactive materials.
  • Experience working with hazardous materials.
  • Experience using gloveboxes and fume hoods.
Work Location :

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
