Responsibilities

The Manager of Practice Communications will support Mayo Clinic by developing and executing strategic communication plans that align with Mayo Clinic’s Bold. Forward. strategy under the clinical practice shield. This role will focus on promoting the department's transformative Mayo model of care for serious and complex conditions, enhancing internal and external communication, and fostering collaboration among clinicians, scientists, staff, and external partners. The successful candidate should bring innovative thinking to achieve ambitious goals and stay ahead of new and novel developments in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to enhance Mayo Clinic’s reputation as a Category of One for serious and complex care among consumer, physician, and academic audiences.
  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders in the clinical practice, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and supporting visibility for enterprise-level initiatives.
  • Promote Practice priorities and transformative initiatives through a wide variety of written, multi-media and visual content across various communication channels in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, clinicians, and allied health professionals.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, including researchers, clinicians, staff, patients, and the general public.
  • Generate and manage content for digital and social media platforms to enhance online presence and visibility in the scientific and academic medical communities.
  • Leverage data and analytics to measure the impact of communication efforts and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Produce clear, well-written, grammatically correct, and factually accurate copy and content.
  • Partner with Media Relations to coordinate Mayo Clinic experts for media interviews or generate timely content for distribution to media

The department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic’s reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services.

The manager understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and leads the development of strategies to support those objectives. The manager partners with other department leaders to execute operational goals, prioritize work, ensure effective and efficient operations, maintain high standards for service excellence and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The manager must develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with senior physician and administrative leaders across the practice to ensure communications strategies reflect enterprise practice goals.

The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies. Experience with a top-ranked academic medical center is preferred.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Excellent interpersonal skills to include presentation, negotiation, persuasion, team facilitation, constructive feedback and written communications skills are required. Superior project management experience, knowledge and skills must be demonstrated. Incumbent must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities. Demonstrates interest in continuous learning and professional development, in addition to functional area expertise.
