Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the SSM III, Pay, Benefits, and Staff Management Branch Manager, the SSM II (Supervisory), Cal OES Health and Safety Officer leads the direction, planning, and policy development of the Wellness & Disability Unit (WDU) and the execution, oversight, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive employee health and safety program.
The SSM II (Supervisory), Cal OES Health and Safety Officer exercises independent judgment and has decision-making authority in identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards; developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures; and responding to incidents, inspections, and/or regulatory findings. The incumbent has the authority to escalate safety issues to executive leadership as necessary to protect personnel and ensure compliance.
Effective January 1, 2026, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) will change the classification name of Staff Service Manager II to Supervisor II. This update affects the job title, your application will still be valid, and you may be hired under the new Supervisor II title after January 1, 2026. Hybrid Telework : This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.
