The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within school buildings.
To successfully perform this role, an individual must be capable of executing each essential function effectively.
Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum hallways, stairwells, classrooms, and office spaces daily.
Clean restrooms daily, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing sinks, toilets, urinals, and mirrors; dust fixtures, vents, and stalls weekly; remove graffiti as needed.
Empty classroom, office, and hallway trash containers daily; clean and sanitize trash receptacles weekly or as needed.
Disinfect high-touch surfaces and desks daily; straighten desks and chairs.
Clean chalkboards and marker boards at least once a week.
Dust computers, keyboards, ledges, windows, baseboards, and vents weekly.
Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed.
Maintain HVAC systems by replacing filters and performing routine maintenance during breaks.
Report any maintenance issues to the Building Lead.
Remove snow and debris from entryways and sidewalks.
Ensure door glass, frames, and handles are kept clean at all times (inside and out).
Properly clean, store, and charge custodial equipment; report any equipment issues.
Maintain cleanliness of school grounds; empty exterior trash cans as needed.
Carry a radio at all times during shifts and respond promptly when called.
Assist in other areas or buildings as required.
Secure the building daily, ensuring all doors and windows are locked and unnecessary lights are turned off.
Move furniture and equipment as needed for school activities.
Comply with local regulations regarding waste disposal.
Conduct facility inspections, including checking boilers, water meters, and kitchen temperatures.
Maintain courtyard lawn, trim shrubbery, and cultivate flower beds as needed.
Participate in event setup and breakdown when available.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
Six to twelve months of related custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to operate custodial cleaning equipment effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings with colleagues and supervisors.
Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagrammed instructions.
Knowledge of building maintenance and operations preferred.

Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must have full range of vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Ability to perform snow removal for events and student arrival/departure.
May work near moving mechanical parts and in environments with fluctuating temperatures.
Noise levels are typically moderate.
Salary determined by the School Board.
