Job Description

Job Description: We are seeking a Virginia-licensed attorney experienced in licensure defense, particularly with cases involving the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) and related entities. The successful candidate will represent Health Care Providers (HCPs) in various administrative law matters, ensuring proper legal procedures and outcomes. Ideally, we are looking for a lateral partner with a strong book of business.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal representation for HCPs throughout the disciplinary process by the Boards of the VDHP.
• Handle the complaint process against practitioners from initial investigations through to resolution, including informal and formal administrative hearings.
• Represent clients in matters related to DEA certificates of registration and show cause hearings.
• Negotiate and communicate effectively with Board administration and counsel for the Office of the Attorney General.
• Manage provider investigations and appeals involving Medicare and third-party payers.
• Assist with HCP credentialing by third-party payers and hospital medical staffs.
• Advise on Medical Staff credentialing issues.
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including risk management, medical record documentation, HIPAA, and cybersecurity concerns.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in administrative law, preferably representing or working with HCPs.
• Familiarity with Virginia Laws and Regulations governing the 14-Boards of the VDHP.
• Strong understanding of the appeals process post-administrative hearings.
• Prior experience in medical-related representation is preferred but not required.

Preferred Experience:

• Handling sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion.

Note: While experience in criminal matters is preferred, it is not a requirement for this position.
